No child jabs, no tax benefits
WA Liberals will push Tony Abbott to strip tax benefits from parents who refuse to immunise their children as part of a national clampdown on so-called "conscientious objectors".
The party's State branch could also demand the Barnett Government introduce radical traffic flow measures such as smart traffic lights and letting drivers turn left against a red light.
The ideas are among a list of policy motions set to be debated at the Liberals' State conference early next month.
Top of the list is the immunisation proposal - meaning it is most likely to be approved to become a party platform.
It calls on the Abbott Government to review the national immunisation program and the system under which parents can opt out of vaccinations and continue to claim family tax benefits if they lodge a conscientious objection form.
During the Federal election campaign, former PM Kevin Rudd promised to strip the Family Tax Benefit A end-of-year supplement from families who refused vaccinations, costing them $726 per child.
Mr Abbott appeared sympathetic to the plan but stopped short of full support.
Doctors are increasingly concerned at the trend for families to shun vaccinations, warning they put other children at risk.
Latest figures show more than 10,000 WA children are not fully immunised.
Another policy motion high up the list for debate calls on the State Transport Minister to make public a summary of actions being taken to improve traffic flow.
The division suggests smart lights, countdown clocks on traffic lights and allowing left turns on red lights.
The Durack division wants the Federal Government to review Labor's anti-animal cruelty measures for live exporters and the Young Liberals are demanding full competition be opened up on all foreign air routes.
Further down the list - and less likely to be considered - the Fremantle division calls for the establishment of a privately run "re-education centre" for juvenile offenders where they would get intensive training in "good manners, hygiene and education and schooling".
The Young Liberals will demand that taxation powers be returned to State governments and the rural policy committee will call for a royal commission into the science of climate change.
