Rangers to target illegal parking
Town of Port Hedland rangers will be targeting drivers who park illegally in the South Hedland Town Centre.
Concerns have been raised about the number of cars regularly parked on the footpath, and often in the wrong direction on Wise Terrace, Rason Link and Leake Street.
Town chief executive Mal Osborne said there was a general misunderstanding by some community members about correct parking spots in the South Hedland Town Centre.
"The footpaths are not designated parking spots, and drivers who park their cars there increase the risk to pedestrians by forcing them to walk on the road instead of using the footpath," he said.
"Another concern is for the vehicle itself, as vehicles which are parked in the wrong direction, or even improperly, run the risk of collision with other vehicles … having your car involved in an accident is not an ideal situation for anyone."
Parking is available at the South Hedland Shopping Centre carpark, and via side street parking along Leake Street.
"We ask the community to please consider the safety ramifications for pedestrians and themselves before they decide to park illegally at the Town Centre," Mr Osborne said.
From last Thursday to tomorrow, rangers will be issuing cautions for parking offences.
From Friday, October 4 onwards, infringements will apply.
