Lamar's dad says son better off without Khloe
UPDATE: Lamar Odom's dad thinks his son is "better off without" Khloe Kardashian.
The 33-year-old basketball player wed the 29-year-old reality TV star in September 2009 but his father, Joe, wants them to end their four-year marriage in light of allegations Lamar has been cheating and is a drug user. Joe believes these accusations have come from image-conscious Khloe and her famous family.
Joe told Heat magazine: "They brought him down. He would be better off without them. I think the best thing for him would be to have a clean break and divorce Khloe.
"She's been talking trash about my son, saying he's on drugs and stuff like that. I don't think she cares about Lamar, she just cares about their image and money."
The Kardashian women - which also includes mother Kris Jenner and sisters Kourtney and Kim - were catapulted into the spotlight following the success of their reality TV show Keeping Up with the Kardashians and Joe said they keep up appearances when in the public eye but behind closed doors they're not as nice.
"I wish he had never got married to Khloe. She's controlling. Those Kardashian women all are," Joe said.
"In public she's nice, but if you see her personally you see the real person. The mother's like that, too."
Joe was also furious about Khloe's sister Kim's reaction to reports of Lamar's drug abuse. Joe hit out at Kim while referring to the sex tape she made with former boyfriend Ray J, which was leaked in 2007.
"I heard Kim said they don't have crackheads in their family," Joe said.
"That p*ssed me off. Look at where she came from. We don't want porno stars in our family."
Khloe has dropped her husband's surname from her Instagram account, using only her maiden name.
Lamar has defended the Kardashians from his father's accusations in a lengthy post on Twitter.
"He is my downfall! His own demons may be the ONLY thing he gave 2 me (sic)," Lamar said.
"He disrespecting the ONLY FAMILY that has loved me without expecting anything in return. They are the ONLY ones that have been here consistently 4 me during this dark time.
"Only person 2 blame is myself. Say what you want about me but leave the ones who have done nothing but protect and love me out of this!"
This marks the first time Lamar has alluded to his personal issues, having previously insisted that everything in his life was fine.
"Won’t continue 2 speak on this but I have got 2 let this out real quick. I have let this man and many others get away with a lot of sh*t," Lamar said.
"He wasn’t there 2 raise me. He was absent ALL of my life due to his own demons. My mother and grandmother raised me. Queens raised me.
"For the first time since they left, came a blessing of a FAMILY that I married into. FAMILY. That man wasn’t even invited to my wedding. He has never met my mother in law and some of my other family. How can a man who has NOT once called me to check on my well being have the nerve to talk so recklessly about his own ’son’."
Lamar is currently living in his downtown Los Angeles apartment while Khloe is staying in their Calabasas home.
