Crashed into my ex, man tells court

“You wouldn’t believe it, it was my ex wife,” a man told the Geraldton Magistrate’s Court after pleading guilty to careless driving and crashing into the back of her stationary vehicle.

The court was told the 54-year-old man, was driving north along Chapman Road near Bosley Street on Wednesday when his attention was distracted by police attending a matter on the other side of the road.

He had not noticed in that short period that several cars were stopped at a nearby roundabout and crashed into the rearmost one.

Asked by Magistrate Geoff Lawrence whether anyone was hurt, the man replied “They’re fine. You wouldn’t believe it, it was my ex-wife.”

Giving a wry smile, Mr Lawrence replied: “I’m sure there was no malice.”

The man pleaded guilty to driving with a blood alcohol content just above 0.08 and careless driving.

He was fined $600 and disqualified from driving for six months.
