Faraway festival all set

The Fantastic Faraway Festival promises to be bigger and better than ever when held tomorrow.

The festival, previously the Wild Fairyland Festival, at the Ivey Watson Playground in Kings Park will be broadened to give it wider appeal to more children.

But Kings Park Festival director Rebecca Maddern said some aspects, such as Fairy Queen Caroline, would stay.

Ms Maddern said the idea for the new festival came from Enid Blyton's The Faraway Tree books and was aimed at children aged 2 to 12.

Activities include face painting, kites, pony and camel rides, and egg-and-spoon races.

There will be live music, circus acts and entertainment by Kings Park's Adorable Florables.

The festival also has a focus on conservation and biodiversity and includes wildlife displays.

The event is part of the 50th annual Kings Park Festival, which runs until September 30.

"It's our big day for kids and families," Ms Maddern said.
