Bid for one-to-one over coffee

A rare opportunity begins today to bypass personal assistants and busy schedules to get one-to-one time with some of Perth's well-known and influential people.

Meeting of the Minds is a charity auction where successful bidders buy a coffee date with one of the 18 people giving up their time to help Telethon Institute for Child Health Research.

Julie Bishop, Australia's new Foreign Affairs Minister, joins Lord Mayor of Perth Lisa Scaffidi and Perth Liberal MLA Eleni Evangel from the world of politics. Former Dockers president and businessman Rick Hart is offering to be a coffee date, along with West Coast Eagles player Matt Rosa and newly retired Adam Selwood.

From the world of media, _The West Australian's _ Steve Pennells and Paul Murray join Channel 7's Rick Ardon and Monika Kos, Channel Ten's Matt Moran and radio presenters Steve Mills and Jenny Seaton in the auction.

Renowned for their work in health, medicine and science, former Australian of the Year Fiona Stanley, Burns Service of WA director Fiona Wood and Nobel Prize laureate physician Barry Marshall are also donating their time.

Lawyer Judith Fordham and entertainer Max Kay complete the list.

The auction was organised by Alida Cubbage, who was inspired after seeing Apple chief executive Tim Cook raise $621,000 for charity in May by auctioning himself for a coffee date. The auction is open until next Friday.
