Woman lucky to avoid injury when roof collapses

An elderly woman from Adelaide’s inner north-eastern suburbs had a rude awakening overnight when part of her roof collapsed, sending tiles crashing into her hallway.

The woman was asleep in the bedroom of her Vale Park home when part of the tiled roof caved in.

The Metropolitan Fire Service (MFS) said it could have been a lot worse.

“The tiles certainly could have caused a lot more damage and if she had been in the wrong place at the wrong time, she could have been injured,” John van Dongen from the MFS sad.

The victim had to use buckets to catch rainwater through the night, but she is moving into another property she owns.
