Flight abandoned as tape repair job come loose

A Ryanair pilot was forced to turn back to the airport mid-flight after tape used to fix a pilot's window came loose.

The plane, carrying 200 passengers from Essex, England to Riga in Latvia, turned back 20 minutes in the flight after the tape dislodged from the windscreen, the Daily Mail reported.

Reports said the screen had been wrapped across the edges by ground crew before the plane took off.

Passenger Anthony Neal told The Sun: "We were terrified. I could see the guys taping the windscreen, with what looked like duct tape or gaffer tape.

"We were in the sky, then the pilot said due to damage on the windscreen, we were going to have to turn back."

According to the Irish Aviation Authority, the tape should have been an effective precaution that would have lasted up to seven days.

A spokeswoman for the IAA said: "All the maintenance was carried out in line with the correct procedures.

"The pilot took the correct action by returning to base."
