Hairy ballerina poses for breast cancer

A US photographer says he is 'tickled pink' that photographs of him wearing a tutu are helping to raise funds for breast cancer research.

Bob Carey first started what he has now dubbed 'The Tutu Project' after his wife, Linda, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2003.

What began as a joke has now become a major project with a tutu-clad Carey taking pictures of himself in bizarre locations including a meadow of cows and New York's Times Square.

The slightly hairier than average ballerina is now aiming for his pirouetting adventures to be turned into a book with all proceeds going directly to breast cancer organisations.

After years of talking about the project the New York local says he is overjoyed that he and his wife can now make a difference for other breast cancer sufferers.

"My wife really wants to inspire other women," he told United Press International. "She's been doing this for eight and a half years now. She's really a miracle."
