Gent happy to have resisted Man City bid for Yassine El Ghanassy

Gent management were delighted to keep hold of winger Yassine El Ghanassy before the winter transfer market deadline.

It's been revealed on deadline day, Manchester City came in with an offer for the Belgium U20 international.

City boss Roberto Mancini moved for El Ghanassy after losing Adam Johnson for three months due to injury.

Gent resisted their approach, though chairman Ivan de Witte said yesterday: "We wanted Yassine to stay for the remainder of the season. After that, the situation will be different."
