Journalist left bloodied outside court by Assaad supporters

A Sydney journalist has been left bruised and bloodied after being attacked by a supporter of Tarek Assaad, whose gangland brother was shot dead last month.

The young reporter was following family members of Mr Assaad, the brother of slain Hamad Assaad, when the woman snapped outside Bankstown Court.

The attacker shoved the reporter, pushing her camera into her face which caused her right eyebrow to split.

"Youse better move out of my way before I charge youse," one supporter yelled.

The court heard Mr Assaad's "potential for retribution ... is high", given the recent murder of his brother.

A magistrate labelled Mr Assaad as an "extreme risk" to the community when refusing him bail.

Mr Assaad had argued he didn't know there was a loaded firearm in his TV cabinet, which was found by officers late on Thursday night.

The magistrate said given the gun was loaded and had rounds of ammunition, Mr Assaad may have been planning to use it immediately.

Mr Assaad's arrest comes on the back of eight separate gangland killings - none of which Mr Assaad is alleged to be involved in.

The latest murder saw Pasquale Barbaro shot dead on a Sydney street - the man who was a suspect in the killing of Hamad Assaad.
