Murdered teacher Stephanie Scott's dad killed by falling tree

The father of slain New South Wales schoolteacher Stephanie Scott has died after being crushed by a falling tree.

Robert Scott’s death comes less than three weeks after his daughter’s killer, Vincent Stanford, was sentenced to life in prison in the Supreme Court in Griffith.

Police were called to a farm on Namami Road, near Canowindra in rural NSW following reports that a man aged in his 60s had died.

It is believed Mr Scott was struck while clearing trees on the property. His body was located on Tuesday morning.

The tragedy is a further blow to the Scott family who recently endured a harrowing court case into the slaughter of their daughter Stephanie.

Her father appeared next to her mother, Merrilyn Scott, for a statement outside court on October 13.

Holding back tears, Mrs Scott spoke of the struggle of coping with Stephanie’s death.

“For the love of our beautiful Stephanie, the past 18 months have been a most difficult and harrowing time. So much has been taken away from us and Stephanie has had everything taken away from her,” she said.

“Losing her has shattered so many lives and we’re all struggling with the consequences.”

In an interview with News Corp last year, Mr Scott said he believed a person’s spirit carries on after their death.

“When you die I don't know what happens really, but you leave this body and our spirit is what goes on,” he said.

“She [Stephanie] had plenty of spirit so, whatever happens, she should be in the best place possible because she had one of the best spirits you’ve ever come across.”

Police will prepare a report for the Coroner.
