Woman charged over fatal shooting of man outside Gold Coast school

A woman has been charged with the murder of a man who was shot dead near a Gold Coast school on Monday.

The 48-year-old will face Southport Magistrates Court later on Tuesday.

The 43-year-old man was fatally shot in the chest outside Labrador State School on the Gold Coast on Monday afternoon.

According to police the victim had initially sustained "serious life-threatening injuries" as result of the shooting, but he later died.

Officers said initial information suggested that authorities were called to a residence on Imperial Parade just after 2pm on Monday after receiving reports of a shot being fired.

"At this time we have one female and a number of witnesses who are assisting police with their enquiries," Detective Inspector Mark Thompson said at a press conference.

"An altercation between a closed group of people," Thompson responded when asked if any outside members of the public were at risk.

Thompson also confirmed that no children were inside the property when in incident occurred.

A 48-year-old female was taken into custody shortly after the shooting.

Imperial Parade was closed and police are asked motorists to avoid the area if possible.

According to Thompson a weapon was found at the scene of the incident.

Diversions were in place for those who attempted to pick up children from the nearby school.
