Convicted murderer Bevan Meninga is behind bars again almost two years after being released on parole.

The brother of Australian Rugby League coach Mal Meninga was arrested on Wednesday after allegedly stealing a mobile phone from his neighbour.

On his release from prison in 2014, Meninga was surrounded by family and friends, including his famous older brother Mal.

“We don't condone what he does as a family, we're not supporting what he's done, we're supporting him,” Mal told 7 News at the time of his brother's release.

No doubt that two years on, they were disappointed to see him locked up again.

Bevan is now back in custody accused of stealing.

Police say on Monday he followed his neighbour from her home to a nearby car park in West Ipswich.

He allegedly leaned in her front passenger window and snatched the phone from her ear before driving away.

Meninga’s lawyer vehemently denied the complaint, labelling it 'a total fabrication'.

The court heard the neighbour has made several other allegations against him because she wants him back in jail.

The magistrate was told Meninga "is a father of six and has been a model parolee… he hasn't failed a urine test".

But given his history and parole conditions, a return to prison warrant was issued and Meninga sent back to jail.

The 45-year-old served 21 years behind bars for the horrific 1991 murder of Sunshine Coast teenager Cheree Richardson.

The court heard it is possible the stealing complaint could be withdrawn by the time he applies for bail next week.
