Man jumps from apartment after explosion
A man has been forced to leap out of the top storey of an apartment building in Brisbane suburb after an explosion inside his unit.
The man in his twenties was inside the St Lucia home at the time of the blast, which police say could be felt in neighbouring apartments.
Inspector Daniel Bragg, from the Queensland Police Service said:
"The ambulance were the first to arrive at the scene and they located a young male who had suffered both third and first degree burns to his face and neck. He was taken to hospital for treatment."
"I'm also lead to believe his injuries aren't life-threatening," Inspector Bragg said.
Twelve people who were in some of the 28 units at the complex had to be evacuated.
A spokesperson for the Queensland Fire and Emergency Service said workers who helped fight the blaze were also treated.
"We had two fire fighters go to hospital suffering from heat stroke. It was a very difficult job," said Brad Mensforth from the Taringa fire station.
Early investigations suggest the blaze may have started in the kitchen, but authorities are continuing their investigations.
The cause is yet to be determined.
