Flying sheet of ice captured on camera as it shatters windscreen

The next time you are feeling a little indecisive about whether you should clear that ice from your car before taking off – just remember this.

A dash cam on a car in Massachusetts in the US has captured the moment a sheet of ice flew off the car in front and slammed into the driver’s windscreen.

Jeffrey Cote posted the video on Youtube on Wednesday, after the incident happened at 8.45 that morning on Interstate 495.

“An ice sheet flew off the top of an SUV and destroyed my windshield, bent my wiper arm, and damaged my side mirror,” he commented on the post.

“If I had braked harder, I could have avoided impact, but it initially appeared the piece was going to fall in front of me.”

The footage shows the sheet of ice somersaulting towards the car, smashing into the windshield – and then Mr Cotes calmly putting his indicator on and pulling over.
