Lucy Turnbull: The other half of the power couple

Behind every great man there’s a woman.

While Malcolm Turnbull boast’s an extensive CV – journalist, barrister, entrepreneur and now Prime Minister - his wife Lucy is equally as impressive.

The new first lady worked as a lawyer and banker for 20 years before making a career change to become the first female Lord Mayor of Sydney.

The 57-year-old also sits on several boards, including the US Studies Centre and the Australian Technology Park and is also an officer of the Order of Australia.

Together, they form a formidable coalition – the Australian version of Hillary and Bill Clinton.

The pair met when Lucy has just 19-years-old and married in 1980.

“Our first encounter was not across a crowded room, or on a dance floor, but in the otherwise thoroughly unromantic environment of her father’s legal chambers where she was working over the summer holidays,” Mr Turnbull told The Australian Woman’s Weekly last year

“It is almost impossible for me to imagine, let alone remember, what it was like not to be together, so much so that I have a much clearer sense of ‘Lucy and me’ than I do of ‘me’.”

"Lucy is one of those few people who light up every room she enters."

The power couple have two children, Alex and Daisy, and live in a waterfront mansion in Point Piper in Sydney.
