Thai police get to bottom of diamond theft
Thai police have literally gotten to the bottom of the theft of a 10 million baht ($392,000) diamond last week.
A Chinese woman, identified as Jiang Xulian, was arrested at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport on Thursday after CCTV cameras allegedly captured her swallowing the six-carat rock.
The 39-year-old initially denied the accusation, but later confessed to the theft.
An X-Ray revealed the hidden diamond lodged in her large intestine.
Armed with a colonosope and the medical equivalent of pliers, a doctor retrieved the rock after nature and laxatives failed to get it out.
The diamond was later identified by its owner.
Her male accomplice was also arrested - the pair could face up to three years in prison if found guilty.
