Couple banned from every pub in state

A couple has been told they 'can't get drunk and bash each other' after being banned from every pub in Queensland by a magistrate.

The couple pleaded guilty to contravention of domestic violence orders they had against each other in Gladstone Magistrates Court.

Because the pair didn't have anything to keep themselves busy in their town, they would "drink and beat the hell out of each other", Defence lawyer Jun Pepito said.

When Gladstone magistrate Mark Morrow asked the woman if her partner had bashed her, she replied: "Just once".

"I'm not sure [why]. I was pretty drunk, he was very drunk," she said.

"He would have drunk eight litres I reckon."

Both parties have been sentenced to four months jail. They have been given parole and ordered to attend relationship counselling.

"If you do have a relationship then you have got to stop drinking as that causes you to go and be violent towards each other," Mr Morrow said.
