'Oh Captain Jack': Sunrise reporter steals kiss from Johnny Depp

Captain Jack Sparrow plants a kiss on Sunrise reporter Michelle Tapper.

Johnny Depp might have snubbed her the first time around, but Captain Jack Sparrow certainly wasn't going to miss the chance to plant a kiss on 7News reporter Michelle Tapper this morning.

The Sunrise correspondent propositioned Captain Jack as he made his way to the set of Pirates of the Caribbean at Raby Bay.

“How about a kiss and a cuddle for the lady... it’s so cold out here," she asked hopefully as he headed towards a waiting vessel.

True to form, the charming pirate lent in and gave Ms Tapper a peck on the cheek.

"Oh my goodness, you have made my day," she gushed afterwards.

The Captain then tried to steal Ms Tapper's microphone and walk her down the dock, despite the close eye of security escorting the entourage to the boat.

The reporter said it was made all the more sweet after she was snubbed by Depp on Tuesday morning.

"What can I say, I got a bit carried away, but it was worth it,” Ms Tapper said.

“A kiss from Johnny Depp is definitely a career highlight and I'm just glad I popped a breath mint beforehand!

“When he grabbed my hand and microphone and started escorting me down the plank toward his boat, I was torn between following him, but also worried his security team might tackle me on national TV."

Ms Tapper’s romantic rendouvouz was witnessed by hundreds of people who had turned out to catch a glimpse of the Hollywood A-lister.

Fans are thrilled to be seeing a much more approachable side of Depp, who has been reluctant to make public appearances in the past.

Earlier this month, his pet dogs Pistol and Boo were evicted from the country in a quarantine scandal that made headlines around the world.

The Yorkshire terriers, who were illegally smuggled into Australia, were forced to leave after Agriculture Minister Barnaby Joyce threatened to have them destroyed.

Filming at the site is expected to wrap up this afternoon.
