End date confirmed for Public Service Commissioner Stephen Sedgwick

The Australian Public Service Commissioner will step down next month after five years in the job.

In a statement Prime Minister Tony Abbott thanked Stephen Sedgwick for his service.

"I thank Mr Sedgwick for his leadership of the commission and his contribution to the Australian Public Service and wish him all the best for the future," he said.

Mr Sedgwick will finish on December 13.

Mr Abbott said he would announce arrangements for the position soon.

There has been speculation the role of Public Service Commissioner could be axed.

The commission oversees the federal Public Service to ensure it has the organisational and workforce capability to meet future needs.
