Man, 24, dies after fistfight in Lasseters Casino, Alice Springs

A 24-year-old man has died after a fistfight in the Alice Springs casino in the early hours of Sunday.

Lasseters Casino chief operating officer Craig Jervis said security footage showed two men engaged in what he described as a "brief altercation".

"There were a few punches and shoves," he said.

Mr Jervis said security staff were on the scene within four or five seconds to break up the fight.

One man then collapsed in an outside area of the casino.

"Our staff provided resuscitation and then the ambulance arrived and took over," Mr Jervis said.

The man was rushed to Alice Springs hospital but later died.

Mr Jervis said he had been advised by NT Police that the man had pre-existing health conditions.

"It was just an unfortunate incident," he said.

Mr Jervis said he was confident in security arrangements at the casino.

"Our security were there in reasonable time," he said.

Police have not charged anyone in relation to the death.

One newspaper reported a 20-year-old man was assisting police with their enquiries and had been released without charge.
