Woman in court over Sydney abduction bid

A woman will appear in court on Sunday after being charged over the attempted abduction of a three-year-old girl in Sydney's west.

It is alleged the 31-year-old woman took the child from a car seat in Jamisontown while the girl's mother had her back turned and began to walk away.

When the mother ran after her and took her child back, the woman allegedly became aggressive and was detained by passersby until the police arrived.

Officers arrested the woman and took her to Penrith police station, where she was charged with intent to obtain advantage and intimidation.

She was refused bail to appear in Parramatta Bail Court.

Neither the toddler nor her mother were hurt.
