Former scout leader murdered

It has been revealed a man found brutally murdered in his Warradale home was a convicted pedophile.

Former scout leader, Rod Larcombe, had just finished a three year good behaviour bond a fortnight before he was killed.

The body of Rod Larcombe was found by his sister at his Kildonan Road home late yesterday.

Man jailed over double murder

Three years ago, Larcombe pleaded guilty to six counts of molesting two boys while he was their sea scout leader in the 70's and 80's.

Judge Tilmouth suspended his sentence on the condition he enter a good behaviour bond for three years.

He said: “Those boys were entrusted to your care and supervision, which you proceeded to opportunistically abuse."

But a former scout and friend of 20 years said: “He was a good bloke i mean he'd never hurt a fly, always help people and you know that's why I don't understand why this has happened.”

The victim rented out a room to a young student he met at the theatre. Detectives say that man recently moved out and at this stage is not considered to be a suspect.

Today forensic experts and SES volunteers scoured the street for clues.

Detectives say they have no suspects nor a motive but they are confident the murder was not random.
