Iconic SA ghost town bouncing back to life

The iconic ghost town of Farina, in South Australia’s Far North, is coming to life thanks to some passionate volunteers and a famous heritage bakery.

Settlers thought rain would make the countryside awash with golden fields of wheat - hence the name Farina, Latin for flour – but drought put an end to that hope.

But now the town is bouncing back.

A massive restoration project is underway to fix walls, haul in rail carriages and tend to gravestones and bring life again to the ghost town.
