Man charged over theft of minibus at Modbury

Minibus stolen after driver assaulted at Modbury

Police have arrested and charged a man who allegedly assaulted a minibus driver and stole the vehicle in Adelaide’s north eastern suburbs.

The 53-year-old driver received minor head and upper body injuries when he was allegedly assaulted by a passenger at the intersection of Reservoir and North East Rds at Modbury at about 11.20pm yesterday.

Police said the driver managed to get out of the bus before the six passengers drove off in the vehicle.

The driver was taken to Modbury Hospital for treatment.

A 28-year-old Modbury man was arrested and charged and bailed to appear in court next year.

The bus was found at Surrey Downs and returned to the owner.

The incident comes after a cab driver was allegedly threatened with a knife and robbed at Thebarton last week, while a group of taxi drivers were bashed at Henley Beach on Saturday.
