Servo worker feared for life during robbery

A service station employee has told of how he feared for his life when he was slashed with a knife during a hold-up at an Adelaide Hills service station.

Two men entered the Adelaide Rd service station at Mt Barker just before 1am and attacked the attendant while a third stood watch in the doorway.

One of the men was allegedly armed with a knife and lunged at the cashier near the counter.

“He’s just gone straight forward with his hand and that’s when I put my hand up,” the victim – who did not want to be identified – told 7News.

After being slashed and kicked, the cashier was forced to open the register before the three bandits fled with cash and cigarettes.

The 20-year-old victim was taken to hospital.

“I feared for my life,” he said.

“I thought I was in a dream for a minute, this can’t be real.”

He has vowed to return to work, and his boss has praised his actions.

“We’re very proud of the way he handled it, he was under extreme duress,” service station owner Grant Gilbert said.

Police have made two arrests over the incident, but are still hunting a third suspect.
