Crash survivor released from hospital

The 13-year-old girl who survived a car accident, which killed two sisters last week, has been released from hospital.

Mercedes McLean was released from Rockhampton Base Hospital with a broken ankle, cuts and bruises, a slightly cracked pelvis and a punctured lung from the crash that killed Jess Schobbe, 15, and her 12-year-old sister Rheanna.

"(Mercedes) has to use a shower chair and is on crutches, of course," Mr Mclean said. "She is still very sore and uncomfortable as it's a lot of resting up at the moment," father Jason McLean told News Ltd.

Mr McLean believed his daughter did not remember a great deal about the incident, which happened while Jess was driving Mercedes and Rheanna home from the school bus stop.

"She was knocked out for a few seconds and then tried to crawl to the other two," he said.

"I had no idea about the extent of it. It was only when I got there that one of the counsellors said Jess died on impact and I didn't know about Rheanna until a little bit later, and that's when it really hit me - just how bad this was.

"It came as a really big shock ... how did our girl survive that? Even the police and ambulance were saying it is just amazing that she did survive that."

Mr McLean said his daughter was handling things 'OK', and was preparing to attend the funeral of the Schobbe sisters on Saturday.
