Residents outraged over trashed house
A house in Melbourne's west has been trashed after tenants were evicted following a dispute with the landlord, it is understood.
Residents got an almighty shock when they woke on Saturday morning to discover the house in Bladin Street, Laverton, had been transformed into a dump site overnight.
Heaps of rubbish, furniture, household appliances and other belongings, including children's toys, clothes and dozens of pairs of shoes were found strewn across the front yard of the one-storey unit.
A sofa had been mounted on the roof of the property and other household items, including a mattress and an ironing board, left dangling from a tree.
The vandal(s) also went berserk inside the property leaving a trail of destruction.
They emptied cupboards and draws in the kitchen, scrawled graffiti on the walls and littered the house with rubbish.
Rotting food was shoved into the window frames of the property and bins upturned in what the local council believes may have been an act of revenge.
A spokesperson for Hobsons Bay City Council said the house was trashed after former tenants were evicted.
The mess has left residents outraged.
"How disrespectful to our neighbourhood and the elderly neighbours," resident Darren Meinzer told 7News.
"I've never seen anything like it in my life," another resident Michelle added. "I've never seen a couch on a roof before.
"I don't know how they could do this. They have no morals."
The three bedroom private property was fenced off late this afternoon, but the clean up cannot get underway until tomorrow after the current owner's insurers have inspected the damage.
