Hope of bright future for brave little Finn

FIRST ON 7: A South Australian baby diagnosed with a rare form of eye cancer after a friend spotted an abnormality in a Facebook photo has been given hope of a bright future.

An eagle-eyed friend of Kelly Glazbrook raised the alarm when she spotted a ‘white glow’ in a photo of her baby Finn posted online.

The six-month-old was soon diagnosed with retinoblastoma – a children’s eye cancer.

He almost lost his left eye, but after chemotherapy, blood transfusions, and stints at Ronald McDonald house – his eyes are now cancer free.

“It was fantastic, it was huge amount of relief,” Kelly said.

“But it is the type of cancer that can just come back.”

The small Yorke Peninsula town of Minlaton has been right behind Finn the whole way, and is helping hundreds of other cancer patients.

A blood donor drive called Fish Kisses for Finn has been a huge success.

The Red Cross said the community’s blood donations have already saved more than 150 lives.

Everyone is inspired by him, so everyone’s getting behind him and helping out,” Ngaire Slater said.

Finn’s mother Kelly said: “For everything bad you can say about social media, we’re living proof it can be for the good as well.”
