Dog's 40km journey trying to get home

An Adelaide dog has made a 40 kilometre journey across the city trying to get home after escaping her dog-sitter, but her journey might not have had a happy ending without the power of social media.

Kelpie-cross Nala lives at Windsor Gardens, but when her owners went overseas, their daughter Sarah Julom offered to take care of the pooch at her house in Royal Park.

But it turned out Nala liked living at home better.

On Monday, she escaped the Royal Park backyard without a trace.

Hoping for a miracle, Sarah posted Nala’s picture on the ‘Lost Dogs of Adelaide’ Facebook page.

“I thought ‘who is going to look out for someone’s dog’, but all the comment, all the sightings, they were straight on there to say they had sighted her,” Sarah told 7News.

On Tuesday she was seen at Arndale, on Wednesday at North Adelaide, and on Thursday she tried to follow the Linear Park to Windsor Gardens along the O-Bahn.

Then on Friday, she was found at Medindie.

“She’s a superdog really,” Sarah’s husband Mark said.

“Based on the sightings, she pretty much travelled 40km.”

Sarah and Mark said if it wasn’t for the Facebook page, they may not have been able to track down Nala.
