$200k reward offered over unsolved murder

A $200,000 reward is up for grabs over the unsolved murder of a woman found dumped at South Australia’s Mt Crawford Forest seven and a half years ago.

Detectives have a suspect in Emma Pawelski’s brutal death, but they need more help to crack the case.

The victim’s mother, Sharon McKell, believes her daughter’s battle with drugs sent her down a torrid path to the person who murdered her.

And she thinks she knows who the killer is.

“I’ve got a suspicion, but I’m not Major Crime and they have to have evidence,” she said.

“It’s very, very frustrating.”

Police are hoping the $200,000 reward is enough to get someone to come forward and provide the vital lead needed.

Ms Pawelski, 30, was last seen on November 26, 2005, walking along Regency Rd carrying a cat.

Eight days later, a bush walker found Ms Pawelski’s partly burnt body at Mt Crawford Forest near Williamstown.

She had suffered massive head injuries.

Detectives believe more than one person was involved.

The $200,000 reward is on par with notorious cases, including the disappearance of schoolgirl Rhianna Barreau, the missing Beaumont children, and the Pearce family killings.

Rewards of $1 million are still on offer over the deadly NCA bombing and the family murders.

Acting Premier John Rau said: “SAPOL has rewards being offered in a number of matters – in excess of 40 – and the total amount that is outstanding presently in $10 million.”
