Shocking video emerges of train assault

A train passenger allegedly attacked by two teenage girls on a Melbourne train has told how no one came to help him.

The confrontation was captured on camera as two teenage girls verbally and physically abused Roger Stapleford on an express service from Flinders Street to Eltham.

The disturbing incident was filmed by a News Ltd photographer on Monday night.

The girls allegedly threw a can at Mr Stapleford, which struck his head and left a bloody gash.

It is claimed they then poured a drink over the 56-year-old father-of-two and repeatedly swore at him after he asked them to remove their feet from the seats.

Mr Stapleford said he was disappointed that no one on the packed rush-hour train stood up to help.

"I know I felt very alone," he said. "If someone sat up and said something, it would have been a great help."

A passenger pressed the emergency button to alert the driver, and the teenagers were kicked off the train at Clifton Hill station where they were spoken to by police.

The recent incident follows a string of abusive rants on Melbourne's public transport network.
