Vic residents warned of wild weather

Traralgon residents are preparing for evacuation as torrential rain threatens to flood dozens of homes in the town.

The State Emergency Service has issued a warning to residents living near Traralgon Creek to prepare for major flooding as rain continues to drench the Gippsland town.

The Bureau of Meteorology has warned Gippsland and the Otways will be hardest hit by the forecast rain, with predictions of flash flooding and landslides in the regions.

Every catchment in Gippsland has been put on flood watch, with falls expected to continue until tomorrow night.

The Bureau has predicted damaging winds of up to 100km/h in the Alpine regions of Mt Hotham and Falls Creek.

Flood warnings have been issued for greater Melbourne catchments at Werribee, Maribyrnong, Yarra, Dandenong And Bunyip.

State Emergency Service spokesman Lachlan Quick said the SES's focus was on regional areas.

"The bulk is going to happen out in Gippsland," Mr Quick said.

Parks Victoria has warned people planning to visit Gippsland and the Otways that roads and tracks will be extremely slippery.

"The wet weather may also lead to trees falling across roads and tracks and flooding," a spokeswoman for the state environment department said.

Some tracks and trails will be closed.
