Hit run mystery at Dry Creek

South Australian Police are searching for witnesses to a possible hit-run on the Salisbury Highway at Dry Creek in Adelaide's northern suburbs, early this morning.

Just before six o'clock this morning, a 26-year-old man was riding his scooter towards Port Adelaide down the highway, when he pulled over to the side of the road.

But police are at a loss to explain what happened after that, with witness reports saying the man was walking up the middle of the road with his back pack on.

Several cars had to swerve to avoid missing him.

He was later found with serious head injuries, and taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital for treatment.

"At this stage he has injuries consistent with being struck by a car, but we are unsure as to what happened at the time of the incident," Inspector Andrew Thiele from the Traffic Support branch.

"So what we're appealing for is motorists who may have seen the male walking on the road before the incident, or the driver of the car who struck the male to please come forward and assist us with our inquiries."

Anyone with further information on the incident should contact BankSA Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or go to their website.
