More gun shots fired

A gun battle has erupted in one of Melbourne's northern suburbs as police prepare to flood the area to stop a violent clan war.

Police are at the scene in Hilda Street, Glenroy, following reports of shots being fired from vehicles, the sixth violent incident in the area in nine days.

The gun battle happened just after 3pm this afternoon.

The Herald Sun has reported that a bus load of passengers were among the witnesses caught up in the shoot out.

This latest shooting follows a series of violent eruptions between two warring families in the region.

The incident comes a day after a house in nearby Jacana was shot at, followed by a car chase and further shots being fired at a playground.

The Jacana house was also fired at last Wednesday, four hours before a home in nearby Coolaroo had a home-made bomb thrown through the front window.

The following day, shots were again fired at the Coolaroo home, which was also the target of a drive-by shooting on February 5.

Feuding families in Jacana and Coolaroo have been told the violence must stop.

The shooting comes despite plans to deploy extra police patrols to trouble areas in a crackdown on gang violence.

No one was injured in the latest round of gunfire and police believe there may have been two separate incidents.

Police are also investigating whether there is a link to an incident on June 19 in which shots were fired from a Mercedes at two other cars on Pascoe Vale Road, which runs between the Coolaroo and Jacana properties.
