Cyclist dies in semi crash
A cyclist has died after being run over by a semi trailer at Cavan this afternoon.
The accident occurred just after 1pm today, at the intersection of Port Wakefield Rd and Montague Rd.
It's believe the 44-year-old woman was on her bicycle, waiting at the intersection lights alongside the semi-trailer.
"A number of witnesses did see this collision and we understand that both the cyclist and the semi trailer were at the red light at the intersection on Montague Rd and turned in to cross the intersection," Inspector Kym Hand from Major Crash said.
"When the lights changed from red to green we understand the truck and the cyclist took off at the same time and the cyclist may have lost balance."
"It's quite early in the investigation which is being conducted at the scene to determine the cause."
Major traffic restrictions are in place and the intersection is closed to traffic in all directions.
