Mother of slain boys writes new grief book to help others

Nearly a year on from the tragic death of her two boys, a devastated Port Lincoln mother has written a children’s book in a bid to help others deal with their loss.

Melissa Little’s husband Damien drove his station wagon off a Port Lincoln wharf in January with the couple’s two boys still inside.

Investigators say four-year-old Koda and month-month-old Hunter had suffered gunshot wounds before the terrible crash.

“As you can imagine, once you lose everything, it’s a very lonely and quiet place,” Melissa Little said.

"(The book) is to kind of try and explain to (others) the concept of one day their friend's here, the next day they're not."

Picking up the pieces, Mrs Little has written Yesterday You Were Here, with the tight-knit Port Lincoln community fundraising to have the book printed.

“To actually want to contribute back to the community and help other children is just amazing,” family friend Rachel McGuire said.

On top of the book release, the inspirational Mrs Little is also planning to walk the Kokoda Trail next year as part of a fundraiser.
