Hunt for homeless firebomber ends in drug bust

A hunt for a masked attacker responsible for throwing firebombs at Sydney's sleeping homeless, has led police to an alleged drug syndicate suspected of targeting a popular nightlife precinct.

On Friday police released video of the alleged bust at a home in Woolloomooloo, which led to the arrest of nine people in the area.

It was alleged those involved took part in distribution of cocaine and heroin in the Kings Cross area.

The footage comes only days after NSW police asked the public for information after two petrol bombs were thrown into an area where homeless people gather to sleep at night on the corner of Cathedral and Bourke streets.

At the time police released CCTV of a masked attacker at Tom Uren Place, throwing the Molotov cocktails.

The footage was captured in February.

A NSW Police spokesman said Friday’s raid was a result of information into the firebombing incidents.


The spokesman said the raid took place about 9am and included officers from the Kings Cross Drug Unit, dog squad and Polair.

Six search warrants were issued across the suburb.

Six search warrants were executed in residential premises across the suburb of Woolloomooloo.

Officers allegedly located an amount of heroin and cannabis inside a number of premises, and arrested five women and four men.

They were taken to Kings Cross Police Station where charges were expected to be laid.

No arrests have been made in connection to the link between the firebombings however police said investigations were continuing.
