Man appears in Victoria court charged with toddler's murder

A young man charged with murdering his partner's three-year-old girl in Victoria has appeared in court.

The girl was taken to a hospital in Horsham on 17 September last year, where she later died, police said in a statement.

Following a delicate homicide squad investigation, the 21-year-old Horsham man was charged with one count of murder on Tuesday.

He later faced Horsham Magistrates Court where where the matter was adjourned for a committal mention in the same court on August 24.

A magistrate issued a blanket suppression order, banning the naming of the man, the little girl or her mother.

At the time of her death, there was no funeral for the child but 7 News understands that money was raised for a tea party in her honour.

Online in a tribute she was described as "the sweetest most beautiful little girl, with impeccable manners, big brown eyes, long dark eyelashes, curly dark locks and sweet little innocent smiling face".

It also sad she had been "taken from this world from an unidentified blood disease".

7 News understands an autopsy was carried out after bruises were found on the girl's body.
