Florida surfer kills shark he said bit him

A surfer in Florida has dragged ashore a shark he said bit him a day previously, promising to “fillet it” and “eat it” as an act of revenge.

In video footage of the incident, the shark is seen writhing and thrashing, before the proud surfer straddles it, pulling open the creatures mouth.

Allen Engelmann, 28, got 15 stitches in his left hand after a shark caught hold of it while he was surfing close to Singer Island on Sunday, the Sun-Sentinel reported.

He said he managed to fight it off at the time and paddle free.

However, the local fisherman was not sufficiently pleased with that outcome and returned close to the scene of the bite the next day with family and friends to get his revenge.

Florida has been dubbed the shark capital of the world and local media have said it is heavily populated with spinner sharks – the kind Engelmann said he was attacked by.

So, what are the chances he could just reach in and pluck out the one that bit him? Slim, one would imagine.

But he reportedly said he knew this was the one because he recognised marks on its fins.

Laughs and cheers can be heard in the video as Englemann, his 5-year-old son and a friend drag the struggling shark ashore, before he proudly pronounces his intention to finish the job by taking the shark home for their dinner.
