Country set to sizzle as heatwave spreads

A spring heatwave will send temperatures soaring in many parts of the country this week, with severe and extreme conditions being predicted for some parts.

South Australia is expected to see its hottest November spell in six years, according to Weatherzone, while regional areas in both New South Wales and Victoria can expect temperatures in the forties.

The rise in temperatures will come as a large high pressure system moves east from Western Australia.

Melbourne is likely to escape the most excruciating heat, peaking at around 34C on Thursday, while Sydney is expected to bask in temperatures of up to 38C by Friday.

Queensland and north-NSW will continue to see temperatures soar into the weekend, and severe heatwave conditions are predicted to sweep the Top End by Saturday.

With Perth having experienced a scorcher last weekend, temperatures there are expected to drop as the week progresses.

South Australia may be the hardest hit from Tuesday to Thursday, where the heat is expected to combine with dry winds and increase fire dangers to severe and extreme categories.
