GIrl shaves her head for friend with cancer

A 12-year-old Adelaide girl among thousands shaving their head this month to raise money for leukaemia research has been inspired by a chance meeting with a cancer patient her own age.

Jess Simone and Chloe Morris were strangers until leukaemia brought them together.

Chloe is shaving her locks at the end of the month as part of the World’s Greatest Shave.

Her posters caught Jess’ attention at the supermarket and they have been friends ever since.

“I felt a bit sad for Jess, but I was happy I was able to help her,” Chloe said.

Jess, 11, was diagnosed last year.

“They told me that I would probably lose my hair and that’s when I started crying… no one else that I knew had that kind of hair,” Jess said.

Leukaemia is the second most common cause of cancer death in Australia.

Each dollar raised will go towards research and care for patients.

More than 2000 other South Australians will also be getting the cut.

Jess’ father’s business has also pledged to donate $100 per person, for the first 50 people, who volunteer to get their hair cut with Chloe on March 30.
