Southlink bus drivers to strike on Friday

Hundreds of Adelaide bus drivers will strike on Friday in their push for better pay and conditions.

7News has been told the worst affected areas will be Noarlunga in the south and Elizabeth in the north as about Southlink 300 drivers stop work for four hours on Friday.

The Transport Workers Union said it aims to minimise the impact on passengers.

“We want to get the kids to school and we want to get them back home again, so the easiest and most convenient time is between 10am and 2pm on Friday,” Ian Gonsalves from the union said.

Over the past month, Southlink drivers have stopped wearing uniforms and taking fares.

This morning Southlink increased its pay offer to nine per cent over the next three years.

Drivers also want better conditions, but will consider the latest pay offer on Friday.

“And the membership will then make a decision in whether they will accept that and take it to a vote, or they’ll reject it and continue with industrial action,” Mr Gonsalves said.

Transfield drivers will vote on their three per cent pay offer next Tuesday.
