China leads way as growth in G20 countries accelerates: OECD

Paris (AFP) - Growth in the Group of 20 emerging and advanced economies rose slightly to 0.9 percent in the third quarter from 0.8 percent in the previous three months, the OECD said on Thursday.

China posted the strongest growth in the three months ending September with 2.2 percent from 1.9 percent.

That was followed by another Asian giant India, where output growth almost doubled to 1.9 percent from 1.0 in the previous quarter.

Fellow emerging giant Brazil however recorded a contraction of 0.5 percent, the first since the first quarter of 2009.

In Japan and Germany, growth slowed to 0.3 percent, while in the United States, it accelerated to 0.9 percent from 0.6 percent in the previous quarter.
