Sydney siege ends after man jumps from roof

FIRST ON 7: A tense police standoff has ended after a man jumped from a home in Sydney's south-west.

The man climbed onto the roof of the Macquarie Fields home around 4am this morning and refused to come down.

Police negotiators tried to coax him down from the property near Eucalyptus Street.

He leapt from the building around 9.30am.

Witnesses say the man had been screaming, and swearing for several hours.

Another witness told 7News the man was covered in blood and was jumping from roof to roof, pulling off tiles.

"I feel sorry for the people in the house they must [have been] petrified," a local resident told 7News.

The man was wearing a maroon T-shirt, grey underwear, black sunglasses and was carrying roof tiles.

Several police vehicles are on scene, as well as paramedics.
