Barba signs on with Brisbane Broncos

The Canterbury Bulldogs have confirmed the worst kept secret in rugby league.

The superstar fullback Ben Barba has officially been released from the final two years of his contract to sign with Queensland's glamour club.

In a media release, the Bulldogs said the situation was difficult.

“There were many complicated elements that needed to be considered around Ben’s request for a release and we’re pleased to have achieved a result that leaves everyone comfortable with the outcome,” CEO Raelene Castle said.

Broncos officials had been tight-lipped about the move, which has been rumoured for a number of months, but will today confirm the Dally M Medalist will join the club on a lucrative deal that involves compensation paid to the Bulldogs.

“Today I agreed to terms with the Brisbane Broncos which will allow me to move to Queensland with my family,” Barba said.

“I would like to thank the Bulldogs for their understanding of my personal circumstances and for their total support throughout my career.

“I would like to now focus on getting back on the field and finishing the year on a positive note in the blue and white.”

Barba joins Roosters hard man Martin Kennedy at Brisbane for next year, while speculation still surrounds the potential signing of Canberra young gun Anthony Milford.
