Baby weighing 6.1kg born naturally
A woman has given birth to the largest-ever baby born in Germany after the arrival of Jasleen, who weighs more than six kilograms.
Baby Jasleen was delivered naturally at the University Hospital in Leipzig, without the aid of a Caesarean section, reports Die Welt.
At 6.1kg and 57 cm, Jasleen is the biggest-ever German newborn and, even though she remains in the neonatal care unit, mother and baby are doing well.
Remarkably, the mother only arrived at the hospital on the day of the birth and she is reported to suffer from an undiscovered gestational diabetes, which can cause unusually high birth weights.
However, baby Jasleen still falls short of the heaviest-ever baby born.
According to the Guinness Book of Records, Anna Bates gave birth to a boy weighing 10.8kg in Ohio in 1879, but the baby died 11 hours later.
The heaviest baby born to a natural mother is reported to be a boy weighing 10.2kg, born to Italian mum Carmelina Fedele in 1955.
