Adelaide marathon runners return home

Two Adelaide mothers who finished the Boston Marathon just minutes before the bombs blasts have arrived on home soil.

The pair ran a personal best in the race – one that could have saved their lives.

Now back home in South Australia, they are still coming to terms with what happened.

“I’m just really pleased to be back home, it’s been a long journey getting back,” Chantel Peacock said.

“It just feels a bit surreal at the moment.”

Anna Liptak told 7News: “I feel really sad for the people of the world that have to live in fear and terror every day.”

The sister of former Adelaide Crow Matthew, Anna said she is just thankful her children stayed behind.

“Well they both wanted to come over and watch me and I know exactly where they would’ve sat – right on that finishing line like that other little boy did,” Anna said.

They had planned to stay in Boston for another week, but decided to get the first flight home instead.

Anna has yet to decide if she will still run in the New York marathon later this year, where she had planned to lead 25 fellow South Aussies.

“We’re fundraising for the Jodi Lee Foundation this year so I’m getting a lot of phone calls from those people, saying ‘should we go or should we not go’, I said ‘don’t talk to me at the moment… it’s too raw’,” she said.
