Two dead in SA crash

Two people have been killed in a head-on collision between a B-double truck and a car east of Adelaide.

The truck and the car collided at Ki Ki on the Dukes Highway, the main link between Adelaide and Melbourne, about 3am (AEDT), killing the driver and passenger in the car.

The truck driver escaped with minor injuries.

“Investigations so far indicate that the car veered onto the incorrect side of the road and crashed into an Adelaide-bound prime mover,” said Detective Inspector Peter Duance from Major Crash.

It is understood the man and woman inside the car were Malaysian nationals, who had rented the car in Adelaide.

Both were trapped inside the car and died at the scene.

The 70-year-old truck driver walked away with minor injuries.

Police believe a camera mounted to the truck may have recorded vision of the crash, and could hold vital clues as to how it unfolded.

“We’ll review all that information to help us establish the exact cause of the crash,” said Detective Inspector Peter Duance from Major Crash.

“Fatigue is one of a number of possible underlying causes of this crash.”

Police will also look into whether linemarking works at the scene played a part.

They have urged drivers to do all they can this weekend to avoid another Easter tragedy.
